Nominated for the Liebster Award

Eek, exciting ๐Ÿ™‚

Let me start by introducing you to the Liebster Award ๐Ÿ™‚

liebster blog, online award, blog award, online recognition

The Liebster Award 2017 is an award that exists only on the internet, and is given to bloggers by other bloggers. The earliest case of the award goes as far back as 2011. Liebster in German means sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcome. – The Global Aussie, founder

It is a wonderful idea, as it is a way to promote fresh blogs (like myself) with not a lot of exposure yet ๐Ÿ™‚ Nominees should have less than 200 followers on their main blog but other than that, no restrictions ๐Ÿ™‚

I will put up a link to the Global Aussie link at the bottom, where you find more information and the set of rules โ†“โ†“

I’d like to thank Dayna Lynn who nominated me. Especially as a blogger new to to all this, recognition is invaluable. Having somebody tell you that your stuff is worth reading is so encouraging and that’s what I love the idea of this award and that’s also why I’m sending a gazillion cyber-hugs to Dayna Lynn. She posts very regularly on her blog (click โ†’hereโ†) and her posts always make me smile because they’re written in such a happy, relatable tone! Do check her stuff out, whether it’s her favorite lipstick or her Liebster Award acceptance post, I promise you’ll find something to smile about ๐Ÿ˜‰ Continue reading “Nominated for the Liebster Award”

Healthy snacking – avoiding the binge trap

Please tell me I’m not the only one…

You know that feeling you get some days, when you had breakfast and around 3-ish your tummy starts to attract attention to itself? You try to tell your body that it’s only a few more hours until dinner but you just.can’

Seriously, it’s ridiculous, right?ย

But there’s no point in trying to ignore it, at least not for me. I ignore it and 2 hours, like an absolutely famished dragon, I eat a whole flock of sheep. Or in human terms, I binge on anything that the fridge has to give. Or the cupboard – whatever is available.

Having said that, I don’t wanna slip back into old patterns of messed up eating behavior bordering on disorder. I’ve nearly been there and I never wanna go back there. So my solutions is to eat something. Not to binge but to prepare a little, easy snack that’s semi-healthy and satisfying.

Smoke-free since January, was it worth it?

25 of January 2017 – my last cigarette

Okay, that is not entirely true… But this is actually the day I called it quits. And I know to many non-smokers it may not seem like a big deal but every smoker (addict) will tell you – it’s a bloody effing nightmare. Fast forward seven months and here I am, not smoking and enjoying life ๐Ÿ™‚

smoke-free, cigarette, smoker

I have been smoking for years, though at the beginning I was just a social smoker. I would never go off and have one by myself. That changed soon enough and the self-control I was so proud of? Yeah, didn’t exist anymore. It took me a while to fully admit, that I was an actual smoker.

Have you seen all of these 10 must-see movies?

That is usually my reaction when I meet someone who has never seen a movie on what I call my “oh my god, you have to watch it” list. Admittedly, my must-see list is very, veeery long…

lion, unsplash, narnia

Yeah, I’m a movie freak. I love them. Screw reality, Narnia sounds way better.

If I could, I’d make people watch all the movies on my list but that is probably a little excessive so I picked out 10 movies that I have seen at some point in the last 27 years. I had serious problems, limiting myself to 10 but I promise you, they are all worth the watch – for a variety of reasons.

  • cinematography
  • the emotional journey
  • cast
  • music
  • storyline
  • many many more

What you won’t find on my list are horror movies. Because I can’t watch them. I get genuinely terrified and sleep-deprived because they affect me that badly. I’m sure there are some great horror movies out there but I haven’t seen them so I can’t recommend any.

Introducing the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Yeah, there’s a mouthful… It is a rather big name for a semi-small breed but they do have big personalities. They are a wonderful breed, though of course I’m a little biased, owing two of those little munchkins ๐Ÿ™‚ Although they have become a fairly popular breed, a lot of people still don’t really know much about them so I thought a little introduction was in order ๐Ÿ™‚

I won’t go into much detail, it’s just to give you a rough idea of what the Cavalier is like. If you want more information on the breed there’s heaps of useful links. I will put some together at the end of the article:)

No-bake Oreo dessert balls

oreo balls, no-bake, dessert

And it was a success โค

I used to hate anything Oreo-related, no joke. In the rare occasion that someone offered to share, I would always go “eurgh, no thanks”. Yeah, crazy, I know. And then one day, that changed, suddenly I lovedย  them and now here I am, making no-bake Oreo balls ๐Ÿ˜€

I found this recipe on Youtube, changed it slightly and I’m pretty happy with the results. Although I’m not a big white chocolate fan (it tastes funny to me), with the Oreo balls it actually works quite well… It’s also super easy to make, the ingredients aren’t expensive (depending where you live) and it’s absolutely delicious โค

Why talk about Mental Health/Illness

16 % of NZ adult population has been diagnosed with a common form of mental disorder in 2012/13. Meaningย one in six adults go through depression/anxiety/bipolar etc at some point in their life.

Statistics from 2015 indicate that in Germany, 22 % of adult males and 33 % of adult females have gone through a phase of severe struggle with mental health issues.

This is undeniably a high percentage of either country’s population, yet mental illnesses are still a topic not to be talked about during dinner or at any other point, really. We have no problem asking the person with a bandage, how he injured his arm but when we see scars on a person’s wrist , we pretend we didn’t see it.

Many may argue, that the person probably doesn’t want to share the story on how the scars came into existence and for some that is probably true, irrespective of the circumstances. But I truly believe, that if we normalize the general topic of mental illness, people suffering from them will become more outspoken. Continue reading “Why talk about Mental Health/Illness”

My favorite Hot Chocolates in Palmy

A sip of heaven.

You just need a little perspective. Warmed chocolate can give you that. – Giada de Laurentiis

I don’t think I know many people who don’t like hot chocolate. Not liking hot chocolate is almost as bad as not liking Disney in my book.

Wharerata, Massey PN

It’s the perfect drink for cold days, that first sip of chocolate sweetness is like liquidized happiness… And you can slowly feel the warmth reaching out to your fingertips and toes (I have cold feet all the time so this spreading out process is literally like heaven) โค
